Hear Instruction, and Be Wise - Proverbs 8:33

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “Now therefore hearken unto me, O you children: for blessed are they that keep my ways”, and in chapter eight and verse thirty-three of Proverbs Solomon said, “hear instruction, and be wise” where we read,

Hear instruction, and be wise, and refuse it not.

The verse begins, “Hear instruction, and be wise, ... Solomon began with the words, “hear instruction” or “listen, pay attention and give heed to correction, chastening and discipline”, and be wise which means “and exist as judged, made firm, governed and kept from acting in an evil manner”. Solomon said to pay attention to correction and discipline and to be made firm, governed and kept from acting in a wicked way.

The verse continues, “... and refuse it not.” Solomon added the words, “and refuse” or “and ignore, let alone, avoid and neglect” “it not” which means “it, instruction, in no way or manner”. Solomon said not to reject or avoid the “wisdom” and “instruction” of Jehovah God.

When we meditate upon Solomon's words in this verse, we discover how Jehovah God wants everyone to pay heed to His correction and discipline, and to exist as skilled, shrewd and prudent. His listeners were not to avoid or ignore “instruction” because their lives would be better for it. God loves people, and He proved His love by sending His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we yield our lives to Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and allow us to receive His “wise ways and instruction” by His Holy Spirit to guide us into all truth as we live within His presence.

Next time Solomon says, “blessed is the man that hears me”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
