In the book of Proverbs Solomon asked, “Does not wisdom cry? and understanding put forth her voice? She stands in the top of high places, by the way in the places of the paths”, and in chapter eight and verse three of Proverbs Solomon said, “she cries at the gates, entry of the city and the coming in at the doors” where we read,
She cries at the gates, at the entry of the city, at the coming in at the doors.
The verse begins, “She cries at the gates, at the entry of the city, ...”. Solomon began with the words, “she cries” or “she, wisdom, shouts aloud and proclaims” “at the gates” which means “at the entrance of the marketplace and public meeting place of a town or city”, “at the entry of the city” or “at the mouth, orifice or opening belonging to the town”. Solomon shared how “wisdom” shouts aloud at the entry points and openings of the town in which people dwell.
The verse goes on to say, “... at the coming in at the doors.” Solomon continued with the words, “at the coming in” or “at the entrance” “at the doors” which means “at the opening or doorway”. Solomon said “wisdom” comes into the entrance and doorway of the town.
When we consider Solomon's words in this verse, we learn how the “wisdom” of God is available to everyone regardless of where they live. From the very opening of a city or town, God's “wisdom” may be known by all who will listen to Him. God knows “all have sinned and come short of” His “glory” (See Romans 3”23), and without a “Savior”, no one could have a personal relationship with Him. God sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we believe and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and help us pay attention to His wise ways as we live before His eyes and in His presence.
Next time Solomon shares how wisdom says, “unto you, O men, I cry”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
