You Simple Understand Wisdom - Proverbs 8:5

In the book of Proverbs Solomon shared how wisdom, “stands in the top of high places, by the way in the places of the paths. She cries at the gates, at the entry of the city, at the coming in at the doors. Unto you, O men, I call; and my voice is to the sons of man”, and in chapter eight and verse five of Proverbs Solomon said, “O you simple, understand wisdom” where we read,

O you simple, understand wisdom: and, you fools, be you of an understanding heart.

The verse begins, “O you simple, understand wisdom:. Solomon began with the words, “O you simple” or “O you, people both male and female, who are silly, naive and foolish”, understand wisdom which means “consider, discern and perceive skill, craftiness, subtlety, shrewdness and prudence”. Solomon called upon people who are naive and foolish to consider shrewdness and prudence that is offered by “wisdom”.

The verse goes on to say, “and, you fools, be you of an understanding heart.” Solomon continued with the words, “and you, fools” or “and you, people both male and female, who as dullards, simpletons and stupid”, “be you of an understanding heart” which means “exist with a discerning, perceiving, discreet and prudent inner man, soul, mind, thinking, reflection, inclination, determination and conscience”. Solomon called upon people who are simpletons to exist with a prudent thinking inner man and soul.

When we think through Solomon's words in this verse, we discover his desire for people who are naive and simpletons to gain discernment and prudence within their souls and minds by taking heed to “wisdom”. God freely gives His “wisdom” to all who ask Him (See James 1:5), and those who are wise understand that He gave His Only Begotten Son Jesus to be crucified for the sins of all mankind. When we surrender our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and teach us His ways of “wisdom” so we may live skillfully, shrewdly and discreetly in this world.

Next time Solomon says, “hear; for I will speak of excellent things”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
