In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “the discretion of a man defers his anger; and it is his glory to pass over a transgression”, and in chapter nineteen and verse twelve of Proverbs Solomon said, “the king's wrath is as the roaring of a lion” where we read,
The king's wrath is as the roaring of a lion; but his favor is as dew upon the grass.
The verse begins, “The king's wrath is as the roaring of a lion;” Solomon began with the words, “the king's wrath” or “the royal leader and ruler's anger that wrinkles the nostrils or nose” “is as the roaring” which means “exists in likeness and similar to the growling and snarling” “of a lion” or “belonging to a young lion perhaps as covered with a man”. Solomon shared how the royal rulers anger is similar to the growling sound of a mighty lion.
The verse goes on to say, “but his favor is as dew upon the grass.” Solomon continued with the words, “but his favor” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover the king's pleasure, delight, goodwill, acceptance and will” “is as dew” which means “exists like unto night mist” “upon the grass” or “on the herbage, green plants or tender shoots”. Solomon said the goodwill and acceptance of the royal ruler exists like the night mist upon the green tender shoots.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we discover through Solomon how terrifying the wrath of a royal ruler can be and how his goodwill and acceptance is similar to the nighttime mist falling upon the green tender shoots. God is more powerful than anyone, and His compassion and grace is like no other. He is able to cast forth a mighty roar, and He is tender enough to extend His grace and blessings to people. He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we yield to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and demonstrate the restraint of His “anger” and fullness of His “favor” to all who believe.
Next time Solomon says, “a foolish son is the calamity of his father”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
