In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “Speak not in the ears of a fool: for he will despise the wisdom of your words”, and in chapter twenty-three and verse ten of Proverbs Solomon said, “remove not the old landmark” where we read,
Remove not the old landmark;
and enter not into the fields of the fatherless:
The verse begins, “Remove not the old landmark;” Solomon began with the words, “remove not” or “do not take away, move or displace” “the old landmark” which means “the of long duration, everlasting, perpetual and ancient border, boundary and region of a territory or space”. Solomon instructed his readers and listeners not to displace the ancient borders from a region or territory.
The verse continues, “and enter not into the fields of the fatherless:” Solomon added the words, “and enter not” or “and do not come, light upon or go” “into the fields” which means “into the lands, plains or country” “of the fatherless” or “belonging to people who are orphans and bereaved of a father”. Solomon told his readers and listeners not to come into the country and territory belonging to orphans who are without their fathers.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how we are to be honest in our endeavors with other people especially those who are left as orphans. (See James 1:27) God provides material goods to us because He owns all of them, (See Psalms 24:1) and He provided His greatest gift when He gave us His Son Jesus to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we receive Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and teach us to respect and honor the property of others and particularly the “fields of the fatherless”.
Next time Solomon says, “their redeemer is mighty”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
