In the book of Hosea, Hosea asked, “O Ephraim, what shall I do unto you? O Judah, what shall I do unto you? for your goodness is as a morning cloud, and as the early dew it goes away”, and in chapter six and verse five of Hosea, Hosea shared how Jehovah God said, “therefore have I hewed them by the prophets” where we read,
Therefore have I hewed them by the prophets; I have slain them by the words of my mouth:
and your judgments are as the light that goes forth.
The verse begins, “Therefore have I hewed them by the prophets; I have slain them by the words of my mouth:” Hosea began with the words, “therefore have I hewed them” or “wherefore, then and on this account I, Jehovah God, have divided, dug out and cut them, Ephraim and Judah, into pieces” “by the prophets” which means “through the means of the inspired speakers and spokesmen”: “I have slain them” or “I, Jehovah God, have murdered, destroyed, slaughtered and killed them, Ephraim and Judah” “by the words” which means “through the means of the speeches, utterances, sayings and commands” “of my mouth” or “belonging to my, Jehovah God's, orifice in the face used for eating, drinking and speaking”. Hosea shared how Jehovah God dispatched His inspirational speakers to slaughter Ephraim and Judah with His sayings and commands.
The verse continues, “and your judgments are as the light that goes forth.” Hosea added the words, “and your judgments” or “and your, Jehovah God's, justice, ordinance and acts of deciding a case” “are as the light” which means “exists similar and in likeness to the illumination and brightness like the sun” “that goes forth” or “which is directed and proceeds forward”. Hosea shared how Jehovah said the justice and ordinance of “Ephraim and Judah” exists similar to an inescapable illumination like lightning.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through Hosea how Jehovah God sent His “prophets” among the people of Ephraim and Judah, and they proclaimed His utterances of slaughter and destruction, however, the justice and ordinance of Ephraim and Judah continued to be as fleeting as lighting that appears and disappears quickly in the sky. God sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we yield our lives to Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and put His “judgments” within us that shall not disappear like lightning but last for all eternity.
Next time Hosea says, “I have desired mercy, and not sacrifice”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
