In the book of Hosea, Hosea share how Jehovah God said, “For I desired mercy, and not sacrifice; and the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings”, and in chapter six and verse seven of Hosea, Hosea shared how Jehovah God said, “they like men have transgressed the covenant” where we read,
But they like men have transgressed the covenant: there have they dealt treacherously against me.
The verse begins, “But they like men have transgressed the covenant:” Hosea began with the words, “but they like men” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover they, Ephraim and Judah, similar and in likeness to human beings” “have transgressed the covenant” which means “passed over, carried away and alienated the alliance, treaty, constitution, ordinance, agreement and pledge”. Hosea shared how Jehovah God said Ephraim and Judah were similar to people who have alienated the pledge and agreement they made with Him.
The verse continues, “there have they dealt treacherously against me.” Hosea added the words, “there have they dealt treacherously” or “in the transgression of the covenant they, Ephraim and Judah, acted faithlessly, deceitfully and covertly” “against me” which means “in opposition to me, Jehovah God”. Hosea shared how Jehovah was aware that Ephraim and Judah acted in a faithless manner in opposition to Him.
When we think through the words in this verse, we learn through Hosea how Jehovah God knew Ephraim and Judah violated His agreement and pledge with them, and when they broke His “covenant”, they opposed Him. God wants to have a personal relationship with us, and He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind to make this possible. When we put our faith and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and keep us in alignment with Him and His “covenant” and help us to avoid being like those who“dealt treacherously against” Him.
