Brought to the Banqueting House - Song of Songs 2:4

In the book of Song of Songs, Solomon shared how the bride said, As the apple tree among the trees of the wood, so is my beloved among the sons. I sat down under his shadow with great delight, and his fruit was sweet to my taste”, and in chapter two and verse four of Song of Songs, Solomon shared how the bride said, he brought me to his banqueting house where we read,

He brought me to the banqueting house, and his banner over me was love.

The verse begins, He brought me to the banqueting house, ...” Solomon began with the words, “he brought me” or “he, the groom, caused and made me, the bride, to enter and come” “to the banqueting house” which means “into the bubbling up and fermenting dwelling place of wine”. Solomon shared how the bride said the groom caused her to enter into the place where fermenting wine is served.

The verse goes on to say, ... his banner over me was love. Solomon continued with the words, “his banner over me” or “his, the groom's, large military standard in an elevated place above me, the bride” “was love” which means “existed as great affection and appetite”. Solomon shared how the bride acknowledged the large military standard that was placed above her and provided by the groom.

When we think through Solomon's words in this verse, we learn how the groom took the bride to the place of fermenting wine where a feast was to be held, and He provided his great affection toward her by putting her beneath his large military standard. In other words, he provided for her and protected her. God will do the same for us because He loves us, and He proved it by sending His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we yield out lives to Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and lead us to His provision and place us under His protection both in this life and in Heaven to come. (See Romans 5;8-10; 8:28-39)

Next time Solomon shares how the bride says, stay me with flagons, comfort me with apples, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
