In the book of Song of Songs, Solomon shared how the bride said, “By night on my bed I sought him whom my soul loves: I sought him, but I found him not”, and in chapter three and verse two of Song of Songs, Solomon shared how the bride said, “I will rise now, and go about the city in the streets” where we read,
I will rise now, and go about the city in the streets, and in the broad ways
I will seek him whom my soul loves: I sought him, but I found him not.
The verse begins, “I will rise now, and go about the city in the streets, and in the broad ways ...” Solomon began with the words, “I will rise now” or “I, the bride, shall stand up, arise and get up at this time”, “and go about the city” which means “and march or walk around the place of waking, encampment or town” “in the streets” or “within the passage ways”, “and in the broad ways” which means “and within the wide open places, plazas or avenues”. Solomon shared how the bride decided to get up and make her way through the town upon the passage ways and wide open avenues to do the following.
The verse continues, “... I will seek him whom my soul loves: I sought him, but I found him not.” Solomon added the words, “I will seek him” or “I, the bride, shall look for him, the groom” “whom my soul loves” which means “that my, the bride's, heart, mind, will, desire, conscience and seat of emotions and passions has great affection and appetite”: “I sought him” or “I, the bride, required, desired, requested and looked for him, the groom”, “but I found him not” which means “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover I, the bride, did not discover, attain, secure or encounter the groom”. Solomon shared how the bride continued her purpose to search for her well-loved groom, but even though she looked intently for him, she was unable to discover where he was.
When we think through Solomon's words in this verse, we learn how the bride decided to respond to the groom's invitation, however, she now was unable to find him. Though she purposed to go through the “highways and the hedges”, he was now undiscoverable. God is omnipresent, and there is no where that we can escape Him. He will keep Himself concealed at times because He wants us to desire Him, and when we surrender to His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind and seek Him whom our “soul loves”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and make Himself known and revealed in our lives both in this life and with Him in Heaven.
Next time the bride says, “the watchmen that go about the city found me”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
