In the book of Song of Songs, Solomon shared how the bride said, “I am the rose of Sharon, and the lily of the valleys”, and in chapter two and verse two of Song of Songs Solomon shared about the bride being, “as the lily among the thorns”where we read,
As the lily among thorns, so is my love among the daughters.
The verse begins, “As the lily among thorns, ...” Solomon began with the words, “as the lily” or “similar and in likeness to the Shoshannim or trumpet tubular shape flower of architectural ornament” “among thorns” which means “in the midst or middle of briers, brambles or thickets”. Solomon shared how the groom considered the following to be similar to the trumpet shaped flowers in the middle of briers and thickets.
The verse goes on to say, “... so is my love among the daughters.” Solomon continued with the words, “so is my love” or “thus exists my, the groom's, darling or well-beloved one” “among the daughters” which means “in the midst or middle of the maidens and young women”. Solomon shared how the groom considered his well-beloved bride to stand out in the midst of the young women in Jerusalem.
When we consider Solomon's words in this verse, we learn how the groom considered his beloved bride to be similar to the trumpet shaped flowers in the midst of brier bushes, and she stood out in the midst of the young women in Jerusalem. The bride was extremely special to the groom, and because she was so beautiful, she was prominent among the young women in the city. God considers us lovely and beautiful as well, and He wants us to know He considers us more lovely than any other attractions that are available. God loves us, and He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind to prove it. When we yield our lives to Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and fill us with His Holy Spirit so we as “the lily of the valley” that is conspicuous and distinct among others in the world.
Next time Solomon shares about the groom being, “as the apple tree among the trees of the wood”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
