In the book of Song of Songs, Solomon shared how the bride said, “I charge you, O you daughters of Jerusalem, by the roes, and by the hinds of the field, that you stir not up, nor awake my love, till he please”, and in chapter two and verse eight of Song of Songs, Solomon shared how the bride declared, “the voice of my beloved!” where we read,
Behold, he comes leaping upon the mountains, skipping upon the hills.
The verse begins, “The voice of my beloved!” Solomon began with the words, “the voice” or “the sound, noise, cry and crackling aloud” “of my beloved” which means “belonging to my, the bride's, well-loved groom”. Solomon shared how the bride exclaimed how she heard the sound and noise of her well-loved groom.
The verse goes on to say, “Behold, he comes leaping upon the mountains, skipping upon the hills.” Solomon continued with the words, “behold, he comes leaping” or “lo, look and consider, he, the groom, comes in or enters jumping and springing” “upon the mountains” which means “on the range of hills or hill country”, “skipping upon the hills” or “bounding and jumping on the lower or little risings above the plain”. Solomon shared how the bride wanted the daughters of Jerusalem to consider how her groom was coming to where she was located by jumping and skipping upon the range of hills and the smaller risings above the plain.
When we consider Solomon's words in this verse, we learn how the bride calls upon the “daughters of Jerusalem” to notice not only the sound and noise of her groom, but also how he was entering where she was located by jumping and skipping upon the ranges of hills and little risings above the plains. The groom is active, abounding and energetic, and the bride admires him and wants those around her to give their attention to him as well. God actively involves Himself in our lives through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we humble ourselves, repent of our sins and receive Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He gives us His forgiveness, everlasting life and the ability to enjoy the blessing of his “voice” and activity among us for all our lives.
Next time Solomon shares how the bride says, “my beloved is like a roe or a young hart”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
