In the book of Song of Songs, Solomon shared how the bride said, “my beloved spoke, and said unto me, Rise up, my love, my fair one, and come away”, and in chapter two and verse eleven of Song of Songs Solomon shared how the groom said, “the winter is past” where we read,
For, lo, the winter is past, the rain is over and gone;
The verse begins, “For, lo, the winter is past, ...” Solomon began with the words, “for, lo” or “because, since and on account that, look, behold and consider”, “the winter is past” which means “the rainy dark season has been taken away, passed over and crossed”. Solomon shared how the groom told his bride that the rainy dark season has been taken away.
The verse continues, “... the rain is over and gone;” Solomon added the words, “the rain is over” or “the showers of rain has passed on quickly” “and gone” which means “and departed, proceeded and left”. Solomon shared how the groom told his bride that the rain showers had quickly passed on and departed.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn how Solomon continued to share about the groom's invitation to his bride. The dark rainy season was passed over and the rain showers had gone away quickly and left. The idea was that the coast was clear for her to join him and depart from her home. We shall see more of his invitation in our next verse, but for now let us consider that he is giving the bride reasons why the time is right for them to depart. God gives this sort of special attention to us as He declares to day to be “the day of salvation”. (See 2 Corinthians 6:2) God sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of us all, and He invites us to receive Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”. When we do, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and accompany us by His Holy Spirit every day of our lives and throughout eternity.
Next time Solomon shares how the bride says, “the flowers appear on the earth”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
