You are Fair, My Love - Song of Songs 1:15

In the book of Song of Songs, Solomon shared how the bride said, “my beloved is unto me as a cluster of camphire in the vineyards of Engedi”, and in chapter one and verse fifteen of Song of Songs Solomon shared how the lover or the groom said, behold, you are fair, my love where we read,

Behold, you are fair, my love; behold, you art fair; you have doves' eyes.

The verse begins, Behold, you are fair, my love;” Solomon began with the words, “behold, you are fair” or “look, lo and consider, you, the bride, exist as beautiful, comely and pleasant”, “my love” which means “my, the groom's, greatly loved attendant and maid, the bride”. Solomon shared how the groom proclaimed his well loved bride to be beautiful and pleasant.

The verse goes on to say, behold, you art fair; you have doves' eyes. Solomon continued with the words, “behold, you are fair” or “look, lo and consider, you, the bride, exist as beautiful, comely and pleasant”; “you have doves' eyes” which means “you, the bride, possess the physical eyes similar to a dove bird”. Solomon shared how the groom repeated his statement about the bride being beautiful as he described her eyes to be similar to the inviting eyes of a “dove”.

When we think through the words in this verse, we learn how Solomon shared an intimate statement that was repeated twice by the groom toward his bride. To him, the bride was beautiful and comely, and he loved her dearly. Her eyes were similar to the eyes of a “dove” which were friendly and inviting, and he admired them greatly. The groom was attracted to the bride, and God is attracted to us. He loves us as though we are the only person in the world, and He sent His Son Jesus to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind so we can live with Him forever. When we yield our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and show us His beautiful view of us as He sees us through the image of His Son. (See Romans 8:29; 2 Corinthians 3:18)

Next time Solomon says, you are fair, my beloved, yes, pleasant, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
