In the book of Zechariah, Zechariah said, “then the angel that talked with me went forth, and said unto me, Lift up now your eyes, and see what is this that goes forth. And I said, What is it? And he said, This is an ephah that goes forth. He said moreover, This is their resemblance through all the earth”, and in chapter five and verse seven of Zechariah, Zechariah said, “there was lifted up a talent of lead” where we read,
And, behold, there was lifted up a talent of lead:
and this is a woman that sits in the midst of the ephah.
The verse reads, “And, behold, there was lifted up a talent of lead:” Zechariah began with the words, “and behold” or “and lo, look and consider”, “there was lifted up” which means “there was raised” “a talent of lead” or “a round weight of lead metal”. Zechariah shared how a large round lead piece was raised.
The verse goes on to say, “and this is a woman that sits in the midst of the ephah.” Zechariah continued with the words, “and this is a woman” or “and the following exists as a female human being” “that sits in the midst” which means “who is seated, fixed and established within the center and middle” “of the ephah” or “pertaining to the ephah which was a basket or receptacle for measuring or holding a dry measure of quantity that is equal to about nine imperial gallons”. Zechariah shared how there was a female human being sitting within the middle of the receptacle for measuring.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we discover more of the vision shown to Zechariah as he observed a round weight of lead which was raised up and a female human being who was seated within the ephah or basket that was previously shown to him. We shall learn more about this vision in our next few verses, but for now let us be reminded that God has all things under His control. He invites every person to have a personal intimate relationship with Him through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we put our faith and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us His Holy Spirit to guide us into all truth according to His perfect will and plan. (See John 16:13)
Next time Zechariah shares how the angel says, “this is wickedness”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
