In the book of Zechariah, Zechariah shared how Jehovah God said, “after the glory has he sent me unto the nations which spoiled you: for he that touches you touches the apple of his eye”, and in chapter two and verse nine of Zechariah, Zechariah shares how Jehovah God said, “I will shake my hand upon them” where we read,
For, behold, I will shake my hand upon them, and they shall be a spoil to their servants:
and you shall know that the LORD of hosts has sent me.
The verse reads, “For, behold, I will shake my hand upon them, and they shall be a spoil to their servants:” Zechariahbegan with the words, “for, behold” or “because, since and on account, lo, look and consider”, “I will shake my hand” which means “I, Jehovah God, shall move to and fro, wield, wave and swing my, Jehovah God's, hand of power, might and strength” “upon them” or “on them the people who opposed the people of Israel”, “and they shall be a spoil” which means “and the people who came against the nation of Israel will exist as a plunder, prey and booty” “to their servants”or “toward their, the people who came against the nation of Israel's, subjects, men-servants and bondmen”. Zechariah shared how Jehovah God wanted the people of Israel to know that He would raise His fist and crush their enemies, and the result would be that they would become the prey and plunder of their men-servants.
The verse continues, “and you shall know that the LORD of hosts has sent me.” Zechariah added the words, “and you shall know” or “and you, the people of Israel, will perceive, discern, discriminate, distinguish and know by experience” “that the LORD of hosts” which means “that Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God who is over the spiritual army of angels and warriors” “has sent me” or “has dispatched and assigned me, the angel who spoke to Zechariah”. Zechariah shared how the result of the people of Israel seeing God bring judgment upon those who came against them would be that they would be aware that Jehovah God who rules over the angel armies dispatched the “angel”.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through Zechariah how Jehovah God would mightily come against those who opposed His people Israel by the strength and power of His mighty hand. When this occurred, the people of Israel would acknowledge that God sent His spiritual messenger to Zechariah. God wants us to know He will defend and protect the people of Israel, and He becomes our provision and protection as well when we yield our lives to His Son Jesus who died on the cross for our sins. When receive Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and put within us an understanding that He will protect and defend us when our enemies rise up against us.
Next time Zechariah shared how Jehovah God says, “sing and rejoice, O daughter of Zion”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
