The Bay Horse - Zechariah 6:7

In the book of Zechariah, Zechariah saw a vision of four chariots coming from two mountains of brass, and they were drawn by red, black, white and grisled and bay horses, and he ask the angel who showed him this vision, “What are these, my lord? And the angel answered and said unto me, These are the four spirits of the heavens, which go forth from standing before the Lord of all the earth. The black horses which are therein go forth into the north country; and the white go forth after them; and the grisled go forth toward the south country”, and in chapter six and verse seven of Zechariah, Zechariah said the angel shared about, “the bay” horse where we read,

And the bay went forth, and sought to go that they might walk to and fro through the earth: and he said, Get you hence, walk to and fro through the earth. So they walked to and fro through the earth.

The verse reads, And the bay went forth, and sought to go that they might walk to and fro through the earth: Zechariahbegan with the words, “and the bay went forth” or “and the strong dappled, piebald or darkened grey colored horses departed, left and exited”, “and sought to go” which means “and desired and requested to depart, leave and exit” “that they might walk” or “so they, the bay horses, would have the ability to amble about and make their way” “to and fro through the earth” which means “travel or go back and forth across and all over the entire and total country, territory, region, district and world”. Zechariah shared how the darkened grey colored horses went back and forth throughout the world.

The verse continues, “and he said, Get you hence, walk to and fro through the earth. So they walked to and fro through the earth. Zechariah added the words, “and he said” or “and he, Jehovah God, uttered, declared and proclaimed”, “get you hence” which means “depart and leave from here”, “walk to and fro through the earth” or “travel or go back and forth across and all over the entire and total country, territory, region, district and world”. “So they walked” which means “wherefore, therefore and on this account they, the bay horses, ambled and made their way” “to and fro through the earth” or “traveled or went back and forth across and all over the entire and total country, territory, region, district and world”. Zechariah shared how Jehovah God told the “bay” horses to depart and make their way back and forth throughout the world.

When we think through the words in this verse, we learn through Zechariah how the horses that were “bay” colored were commissioned to roam back and forth throughout the world. Not only did God direct them in their mission, but they obeyed Him and did what He said. Even Satan roamed to and fro throughout the earth in obedience to God in the book of Job. (See Job 1:7; 2:2) God's spiritual entities obey Him, and He desires the same for us. He knew we have sin in our lives, and that sin leads to death. When He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, He provided the way through belief and trust in Him for us to be forgiven of our sins, granted everlasting life and to know He works in the spiritual world to accomplish His perfect will.

Next time Zechariah shares how the angel said, “these that go toward the north country have quieted my spirit”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
