In the book of Zechariah, Zechariah shared how the angel asked him, “What see you? And I said, I have looked, and behold a candlestick all of gold, with a bowl upon the top of it, and his seven lamps thereon, and seven pipes to the seven lamps, which are upon the top thereof:”, and in chapter four and verse three of Zechariah, Zechariah shared how the angel showed him, “two olive trees” where we read,
And two olive trees by it, one upon the right side of the bowl, and the other upon the left side thereof.
The verse reads, “And two olive trees by it, one upon the right side of the bowl, ...” Zechariah began with the words, “and two olive trees by it” or “and two trees that bear olives beside or alongside the candlestick or lamp stand”, “one on the right side” which means “one of the olive trees located upon the right hand region” “of the bowl” or “pertaining to the basin on top of the lamp stand”. Zechariah shared how he observed two trees that bear olives, and one of them was to the right side region of the basin which was on top of the “candlestick”.
The verse goes on to say, “... and the other upon the left side thereof.” Zechariah continued with the words, “and the other” or “and the other olive tree” “upon the left side thereof” which means “located upon the left hand region of the basin on top of the lamp stand”. Zechariah shared how the second “olive tree” was located on the left hand region of the basin on top of the lamp stand.
When we think through the words in this verse, we see how Zechariah was shown more of this vision of the “candlestick”which included two trees that bear olives that were positioned to the left and right regions of it. These “two olive trees”will be shown to be important parts of this vision in our next verses, but for now, let us consider that Jehovah God was fulfilling His purposes with this entire set up and display. All of these factors point to His desire to have a personal relationship with every person through His Son Jesus who came into the world not only to be the “light of the world”, but also to give His life on the cross for the sins of all mankind. (See John 8:12; 9:5) When we yield to Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and fill us with His Holy Spirit so that our lives reflect Jesus as the “light of the world” for everyone else to see. (See Matthew 5:14)
Next time Zechariah asks the angel, “what are these, my lord?”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
