Basins of Gold, Silver and Other Vessels - Ezra 1:10

In the book of Ezra, Ezra shared how, “Cyrus the king brought forth the vessels of the house of the LORD, which Nebuchadnezzar had brought forth out of Jerusalem, and had put them in the house of his gods ... And this is the number of them: Thirty chargers of gold, a thousand chargers of silver, nine and twenty knives” and in chapter one and verse ten of Ezra, Ezra shared about“basins of gold, silver and other vessels” where we read,

Thirty basins of gold, silver basins of a second sort

four hundred and ten, and other vessels a thousand.

The verse reads, Thirty basins of gold, silver basins of a second sort ... Ezra began with the words, “thirty basins of gold” or “thirty goblets or bowls made with gold metal”, “silver basins” which means “goblets or bowls made with silver metal” “of a second sort” or “belonging to a similar kind”. Ezra shared how there were thirty goblets or bowls made with gold metal and also similar goblets or bowls made with silver metal with the following count.

The verse goes on to say, ... four hundred and ten, and other vessels a thousand. Ezra continued with the words, “four hundred and ten” or “and also four hundred and ten similar silver bowls or goblets”, “and other vessels” which means “and additional articles, objects, implements or utensils” “a thousand” or “one thousand of the other vessels”. Ezra said there were four hundred and ten of the similar silver bowls or basins along with on thousand additional implements or utensils given to Zerubbabel.

When we consider the words in this verse, we discover through Ezra how the “numbering” of the implements returned to the temple in Jerusalem was important to Jehovah God in this writing. Although it may appear that this is redundant and not meaningful, we should never underestimate the value of God's word in our lives. God is a God of detail, and God loves us. He proved His love toward us when He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for our sins. When we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and show us the importance of every detail of His words which has lead to our salvation.

Next time Ezra shares about, “all the vessels of gold and of silver”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
