The Children of Arah - Ezra 2:5

In the book of Ezra, Ezra shared about “the children of the province that went up out of the captivity, of those which had been carried away, whom Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon had carried away unto Babylon, and came again unto Jerusalem and Judah, every one unto his city”and he named the children who, “came with Zerubbabel: Jeshua, Nehemiah, Seraiah, Reelaiah, Mordecai, Bilshan, Mispar, Bigvai, Rehum, Baanah. The number of the men of the people of Israel: The children of Parosh, two thousand an hundred seventy and two. The children of Shephatiah, three hundred seventy and two”, and in chapter two and verse five of Ezra, Ezra shared about “the children of Arah” where we read,

The children of Arah, seven hundred seventy and five.

The verse reads, The children of Arah, ... Ezra began with the words, “the children” or “the offspring and progeny” “ofArah” which means “belonging to Arah whose name means traveler and was the prominent head of a family of returning exiles”. Ezra spoke of the offspring of the ancestor of a prominent man named “Arah” whose family returned to Jerusalem.

The verse goes on to say, ... seven hundred seventy and five Ezra added the words, “seven hundred seventy and five” or “there were seven hundred and seventy five” offspring of “Arah” who returned to Jerusalem. Ezra shared how there were seven hundred and seventy five children of “Arah” who went back to their homeland in Jerusalem.

When we consider Ezra's words in this verse, we discover how the offspring of “Arah” were also included with the people with “Zerubbabel” who returned to Jerusalem. Each of these families were important to Jehovah God, and we are valuable to Him as well. He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we surrender to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us His Holy Spirit to guide us into all truth and lead us as He desires in His Kingdom.

Next time Ezra shares about, “the children of Pahathmoab, of the children of Jeshua and Joab”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
