The Children of Immer - Nehemiah 7:40

In the book of Nehemiah, Nehemiah said, These are the children of the province, that went up out of the captivity, of those that had been carried away, whom Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon had carried away, and came again to Jerusalem and to Judah, every one unto his city.” Nehemiah included the children of many of the people of Israel in his census, and he added several of the men such as “the men of the other Nebo, the other Elam” and “the children of Harim, Jericho, Lod, Hadid, Ono and Senaah.” He also counted, “the priests: the children of Jedaiah, of the house of Jeshua, nine hundred seventy and three”, and in chapter seven and verse forty of Nehemiah, Nehemiah shared about, “the children of Immer”, where we read,

The children of Immer, a thousand fifty and two.

The verse reads, The children of Immer, ...” Nehemiah began with the words, the children which means “the offspring and progeny” “of Immer” or “belonging to Immer whose name means he has said”. Nehemiah shared how the offspring of “Immer” were among the people of Israel whom he counted as returning to Jerusalem and Judah to the reconstruction of the barrier wall.

The verse continues, “... a thousand fifty and two.” Nehemiah added the words, “a thousand” or “one thousand offspring plus” “fifty and two” which means “fifty two more”. Nehemiah said there were “one thousand and fifty two” of the progeny belonging to “Immer” who were accounted for by him.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn through Nehemiah about another family who returned to Jerusalem and Judah to the finishing of the barrier wall. “One thousand and fifty-two” offspring belonging to “Immer”were counted, and each of them were not only noted, but also valuable to him and Jehovah God. God wants all of us to be “counted” as among the believers in His Son Jesus who came to die on the cross and be resurrected from the dead three days later. When we yield our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and put within us His Holy Spirit who will guide and empower us throughout our lives into the truth which shall remain with us for all eternity.

Next time Nehemiah shares about, “the children of Pashur”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
