In the Beginning was the Word - John 1:1

Luke the beloved physician shared how the disciples of Jesus, “were continually in the temple, praising and blessing God”, and as we begin a new study in the book of the gospel according to the apostle John, in chapter one and verse one, he declared, “in the beginning was the word” where we read:

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

The verse reads, “In the beginning was the Word, ... John began with the words, “in the beginning or “at the origin and commencement of all things” “was the Word” which means “existed the personal wisdom and power in union with God, his minister in creation and government of the universe, the cause of all the world's life both physical and ethical which for the procurement of man's salvation put on human nature in the person of Jesus the Messiah, the second person in the Godhead, and shone forth conspicuously from His words and deeds.” John shared that before all things existed, “the Word” or Jesus Christ existed.

The verse goes on to say, “... and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” John continued with the words, “and the Word” which means “and the personal wisdom and power in union with God, his minister in creation and government of the universe, the cause of all the world's life both physical and ethical, which for the procurement of man's salvation put on human nature in the person of Jesus the Messiah, the second person in the Godhead, and shone forth conspicuously from His words and deeds” “was with God” or “existed alongside and among the Godhead bodily and trinity which is comprised of God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit”, “and the Word” which refers to “the personal wisdom and power in union with God, his minister in creation and government of the universe, the cause of all the world's life both physical and ethical, which for the procurement of man's salvation put on human nature in the person of Jesus the Messiah, the second person in the Godhead, and shone forth conspicuously from His words and deeds” “was God” or “existed as the Godhead bodily and trinity which is comprised of God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit”. John shared how “the Word” or “Jesus Christ” existed before all things came into existence, and He was “God” Himself in the flesh.

When we think through John's words in this verse, we learn how Jesus Christ existed before all things and He “was God”. This “logos” of God was to be the “Lord and Savior” of the world. John will say more about Jesus as our verses continue, but for now, let us think about this great and wonderful “Savior” who came to save every person from the penalty of their sins. Death is the wage for sin, (See Romans 6:23), and anyone who believes and trusts in Him as their personal “Lord and Savior” shall be forgiven of their sins and inherit everlasting life from God.

Next time John writes, “the same was in the beginning with God”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
