John the apostle wrote, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God”, and in chapter one and verse two of his book, John said, “the same was in the beginning with God” where we read:
The same was in the beginning with God.
The verse reads, “The same ...” John began with the words, “the same” or “the selfsame Word”. John shared how the “Word” or Jesus Christ was as follows.
The verse continues, “... was in the beginning with God.” John added the words, “was in the beginning” which means “existed at the origin and commencement of all things” “with God” or “existed alongside and among the Godhead bodily and trinity which is comprised of God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit”. John shared how “the Word” or Jesus existed at the “origin and commencement of all things”.
When we consider John's words in this verse, we learn how Jesus was with “God” at the commencement of all things. God has always been and will always be, and because Jesus was God come in the flesh (See John 1:14), He existed well in advance of everything that was created. We shall learn more about Jesus' role in the creation in our next verse, but for now let us understand God's desire to dwell among people so He could identify with them. He died for the sins of every person, and those who put their faith and trust in Him shall be forgiven. He was resurrected from the dead and is able to provide everlasting life for those who yield their to Him as well. Let all who read these words carefully consider who this “Word of God” really is and submit their lives to Jesus Christ who is God's Only Begotten Son.
Next time John shares how, “all things were made by him”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
