The Words Which Jesus Spoke - Luke 24:44

The beloved physician Luke shared how Jesus revealed Himself to the two disciples who traveled with Him to Emmaus, and afterward they “rose up the same hour, and returned to Jerusalem, and found the eleven gathered together, and them that were with them, Saying, The Lord is risen indeed, and has appeared to Simon. And they told what things were done in the way, and how he was known of them in breaking of bread. And as they thus spoke, Jesus himself stood in the midst of them, and said unto them, Peace be unto you. But they were terrified and affrighted, and supposed that they had seen a spirit. And he said unto them, Why are you troubled? and why do thoughts arise in your hearts? Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit has not flesh and bones, as you see me have. And when he had thus spoken, he showed them his hands and his feet. And while they yet believed not for joy, and wondered, he said unto them, Have you here any meat And they gave him a piece of a broiled fish, and of an honeycomb. And he took it, and did eat before them”, and in chapter twenty-four and verse forty-four of his book Luke shared how Jesus reminded His disciples of, “the words which I spoke unto” them where we read:

And he said unto them, These are the words which I spoke unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me.

The verse reads, “And he said unto them, These are the words which I spoke unto you, while I was yet with you, ... Luke began with the words, “and he said unto them or “and Jesus uttered, declared and proclaimed to His eleven disciples and the people with them”, “these are the words” which means “this is the speech, utterance and voice of concepts and ideas” “which I spoke unto you” or “that I, Jesus, uttered, declared and proclaimed to you, disciples of Jesus”, “while I was yet with you” which means “during the time and moment I, Jesus, was still among and alongside you, disciples of Jesus”. Luke shared how Jesus told His disciples and the people with them that what they were seeing and hearing were the very things He said when He was still among them.

The verse continues, “... that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me.” Luke added the words, “that all things” which means “that each, every, the whole and everything” “must be fulfilled” or “needed, was necessary and ought to be completed, consummated and accomplished”, “which were written in the law of Moses” which means “that were delineated or formed in letters upon on a tablet, parchment, paper or other material in which belong the precepts, injunctions, commands and rule from Moses whose name means drawing out and was the legislator of the Jewish people and in a certain sense the founder of the Jewish religion”, “and in the prophets” or “and within the writings of the ones who were moved by the Spirit of God and hence his organs or spokesmen who solemnly declared to men what they have received by inspiration, especially concerning future events, and in particular such as relate to the cause and kingdom of God and to human salvation ”, “and in the psalms” which means “and within the book of Psalms which were sacred odes”, “concerning me” or “about, around and touching me, Jesus”. Luke shared how Jesus referred to the way “all things” were to be completed which were “written in Moses' law, the prophets and in the book of Psalms” “concerning” Him.

When we think through Luke's words in this verse, we learn how Jesus reminded His disciples and the people with Him about the “things” He shared with them before He died, and it was necessary for all these “things” to be completed. Moses wrote about them. The prophets wrote about them, and the Psalmist wrote prophetic words concerning Jesus, the Messiah, that needed to be fulfilled. Jesus completed all that was needed to prove He is the Messiah, and when a person yields their life to Him, they will receive forgiveness for their sins and inherit everlasting life with God in Heaven. Let all who consider Jesus' words submit to Him. .

Next time Luke shares how Jesus, “opened their understanding”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
