Many Believe on Jesus - John 7:31

The apostle John wrote how the Jews, “sought to take him: but no man laid hands on him, because his hour was not yet come”, and in chapter seven and verse thirty-one of his book, John shared how, “many of the people believed on him” where we read:

And many of the people believed on him, and said,

When Christ comes, will he do more miracles than these which this man has done?

The verse reads,And many of the people believed on him, and said, ...” John began with the words, “and many of the people” or “and a large number of the people both male and female” “believed on him” which means “trusted in, relied upon, clung to and had confidence in Jesus”, “and said” or “and uttered, declared, proclaimed and asked” the following question of the people. John shared how a large number of people “trusted in” Jesus and proclaimed the following words.

The verse goes on to say, “...When Christ comes, will he do more miracles than these which this man has done?” John continued with the words, “when Christ comes” which means “at the time and moment the Messiah and Son of God arises and appears”, “will he do” or “shall the Messiah and Son of God perform, produce and make ready”, “more miracles than these” which means “a larger number of supernatural wonders, signs, tokens and remarkable events” “which this man has done” or “that this male human being, Jesus, has performed, produced and made ready”? John shared how the people who “believed” in Jesus wondered if any other person would “perform” more “supernatural wonders” than Jesus produced.

When we consider John's words in this verse, we discover how some of the people who were listening to Jesus “believed and trusted” in Him. Though the “religious leaders” wanted to capture Jesus and “kill” Him, these people could not help but wonder if any other person would do more “miracles” than Jesus did. Jesus performed the “supernatural wonders” to demonstrate to the people that He is indeed the “Christ, Messiah and Son of God”, and anyone who “believes and trusts” in Him will be forgiven of their sins and inherit everlasting life with God. Let all who read these words carefully examine all the “miracles” performed by Jesus and realize, Jesus is the Christ, Messiah and Son of the living God.

Next time John shares how, the Pharisees heard that the people murmured such things concerning him, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
