In Psalms chapter thirty one David said, “In you, O LORD, do I put my trust; let me never be ashamed: deliver me in your righteousness”, and in chapter thirty one and verse two of Psalms David said to Jehovah, “bow down your ear to me” where we read,
Bow down your ear to me; deliver me speedily:
be you my strong rock, for an house of defense to save me.
The verse begins, “Bow down your ear to me; deliver me speedily:” David began with the words, “Bow down your ear to me” which means “extend, stretch forth, bend and outstretch your, Jehovah God's, ear as the organ for hearing, revealing and receiving towards me, David”; “deliver me” or “rescue, liberate and save me, David” “speedily” which means “shortly, promptly, with haste and quickly”. David desired that Jehovah God hear him and rescue and save him promptly.
The verse goes on to say, “be you my strong rock, for an house of defense to save me.” David continued with the words, “be you my strong rock” or “Jehovah God, exists as my, David's, means of safety, protection, refuge and stronghold”, “for an house of defense” which means “as a dwelling place, habitation, shelter or abode of fastness, strength and strong place” “to save me” or “to rescue, deliver and liberate me, David”. David appealed to Jehovah God to be his “stronghold or fortress” so his dwelling place would be safe and protected.
When we think through the words in this verse, we see how David appealed to Jehovah God to hear his request. He desired that Jehovah rescue him quickly, and afterward be his stronghold of safety and protection. God created mankind, and His desire was to provide for them, protect them and be their God in every situation. However, people sinned, and sin separated them from a personal relationship with Him. The penalty for sin is death, (See Romans 6:23) and everyone who sins will die. God sent His Son Jesus to pay the wage for sin, and He died on the cross for the errors, wrongs and mistakes of every person. He rose from the dead three days later and in doing so provided forgiveness of sins and eternal life to everyone who believes and trusts in Him as their “Savior and Lord”. God loves us, and His “ear” is “bent down” to hear the request of anyone who comes to Him through His Son Jesus, and He will indeed be our stronghold and dwelling place of “defense” and rescue as we yield to Him. Let all praise and glory be unto Him for all He has provided and promised to those who believe.
Next time David says to Jehovah, “You are my rock and my fortress”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
