God Stands in the Congregation - Psalms 82:1

Psalms chapter eighty two begins with the heading, “[[A Psalm of Asaph.]]” which breaks down “A Psalm” or “a melody or poem set to notes” “of Asaph” which means “belonging to Asaph whose name means gatherer and was a son of Berechiah and the chief Levite musician under David”, and in chapter eighty two and verse one of Psalms Asaph said, “God stands in the congregation of the mighty”, where we read,

God stands in the congregation of the mighty; he judges among the gods.

The verse begins, God stands in the congregation of the mighty; Asaph began with the words, “God stands” or “the Divine judge, ruler and Supreme God is established, stationed and appointed” “in the congregation” which means “within the assembly, gathering and company “of the mighty” or “belonging to the powerful, strong and great”. Asaph said the Divine judge Jehovah God established Himself in the assembly of the powerful and strong.

The verse goes on to say,he judges among the gods. Asaph continued with the words, “he judges” or “he, the Divine judge Jehovah God, governs, vindicates and rules” “among the gods” which means “in the midst of the rulers, judges and mighty ones”. Asaph shared how the Divine judge Jehovah God rules in the midst of the judges and mighty ones.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we see through Asaph how Jehovah God establishes Himself in the assembly of the powerful and strong, and He rules in the midst of judges and mighty ones. In other words, Jehovah God presides over the courts in Heaven, and He makes judgments concerning the heavenly beings. God is Supreme, and all others who have authority to judge others are under Him. They shall all give an account to Him for how they have ruled, and woe be to those who judge in opposition to His rule and reign. God's desire is to have a personal relationship with every person through His Son Jesus whom He judged in our place. We have all “sinned and come short of the glory of God” (Romans 6:23), and when we believe and trust in Jesus as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and make judgments over the ones who have authority over us according to their obedience to His ways.

Next time Asaph asks, “How long will you judge unjustly, and accept the persons of the wicked?”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
