Oh That My People had Hearkened - Psalms 81:13

In Psalms chapter eighty one Asaph shared how Jehovah God said, “I am the LORD your God, which brought you out of the land of Egypt: open your mouth wide, and I will fill it. But my people would not hearken to my voice; and Israel would none of me. So I gave them up unto their own hearts' lust: and they walked in their own counsels”, and in chapter eighty one and verse thirteen of Psalms Asaph shared how Jehovah God said, “Oh that my people had hearkened unto me”, where we read,

Oh that my people had hearkened unto me, and Israel had walked in my ways!

The verse begins, Oh that my people had hearkened unto me, ... Asaph began with the words, “Oh that my people” or “O if only my, Jehovah God's, human beings both male and female” “had hearkened unto me” which means “listened to, perceived and obeyed me, Jehovah God”. Asaph shared how Jehovah God made a declaration about His “people” listening to and obeying Him.

The verse goes on to say,... and Israel had walked in my ways! Asaph continued with the words, “and Israel” or “ and Israel whose name means God prevails and is the name of the descendants and the nation of the descendants of Jacob” “had walked” which means “proceeded, moved and lived” “in my ways” or “within my, Jehovah God's, paths, directions and course of life”. Asaph shared how Jehovah God wanted the people in the nation of “Israel” to conduct themselves according to His directions.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we see through Asaph how Jehovah God wanted the people of “Israel” to listen to Him and follow His manner of living. They, however, did not. God invites everyone to have a personal relationship with His Son Jesus whom He sent into the world to die on the cross for our sins. When we listen to what God has said and obey His way, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and teach us to carry out our lives according to His Divine purpose and plan.

Next time Asaph shares how Jehovah God says, “I should soon have subdued their enemies”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
