Subduing Their Enemies - Psalms 81:14

In Psalms chapter eighty one Asaph shared how Jehovah God said, “Oh that my people had hearkened unto me, and Israel had walked in my ways!”, and in chapter eighty one and verse fourteen of Psalms Asaph shared how Jehovah God said, “I should soon have subdued their enemies”, where we read,

I should soon have subdued their enemies, and turned my hand against their adversaries.

The verse begins, I should soon have subdued their enemies, ... Asaph began with the words, “I should soon have subdued” or “I, Jehovah God, would have humbled in short order and with little time” “their enemies” which means “their, the people of Israel's, hating foes and adversaries”. Asaph shared how Jehovah God said He would have quickly humbled the hating foes of Israel if they had only listen to and obeyed His ways.

The verse continues,... and turned my hand against their adversaries. Asaph added the words, “and turned my hand” or “and moved, relinquished and brought my, Jehovah God's, hand of power, might and authority” “against their adversaries” which means “in opposition to their, the people of Israel's, hating foes and enemies”. Asaph shared how Jehovah God declared that His power and authority was moved in opposition to the people of Israel's hating foes.

When we think through the words in this verse, we see through Asaph how Jehovah God desired to humble the hating foes of Israel by bringing His authority in opposition to them. God is for people because He loves them, and He proved it by sending His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and contend with our “enemies and adversaries” whenever they arise against us.

Next time Asaph says, “the haters of the LORD should have submitted themselves unto him”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
