In the book of Proverbs Solomon said sound wisdom and discretion will be, “be life unto your soul, and grace to your neck. Then shall you walk in your way safely, and your foot shall not stumble”, and in chapter three and verse twenty-four of Proverbs Solomon said, “when you lie down, you shall not be afraid” where we read,
When you lie down, you shall not be afraid: yes, you shall lie down, and your sleep shall be sweet.
The verse begins, “When you lie down, you shall not be afraid:”. Solomon began with the words, “when you lie down” or “at the time and moment you, the son of Solomon, recline and lay down to rest or sleep”, “you shall not be afraid” which means “you, the son of Solomon, will in no way or manner exist in trembling, dread and sudden alarm that makes a person shake”. Solomon shared that his son would not be trembling or terrorized at the time he lays down to rest or sleep.
The verse continues, “you shall lie down, and your sleep shall be sweet.” Solomon added the words, “you shall lie down” or “you, the son of Solomon, will recline and lay down to rest or sleep”, “and your sleep” which means “and your, the son of Solomon's, slumber and rest ” “shall be sweet” or “will exist as pleasant and agreeable”. Solomon said as his son lay down to rest, his slumber would be pleasant and agreeable.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn how Solomon shared with his son about the peace and rest that accompanies observing the ways of wisdom and understanding. There is no need to be in terror when a person lives according to Jehovah God's wise ways, and those who incorporate His ideas and intelligence in their lives know that He is in control. God loves us, and He wants to have a personal relationship with us that gives us assurance. When we believe and trust in His Son Jesus, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us rest and pleasantness when we lay our heads down to “sleep”. (See Psalm 127:2)
Next time Solomon says, “be not afraid of sudden fear”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
