In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “The LORD by wisdom has founded the earth; by understanding has he established the heavens. By his knowledge the depths are broken up, and the clouds drop down the dew”, and in chapter three and verse twenty-one of Proverbs Solomon said, “my son, let not them depart from your eyes” where we read,
My son, let not them depart from your eyes: keep sound wisdom and discretion:
The verse begins, “My son, let not them depart from your eyes:”. Solomon began with the words, “my son” or “my, Solomon's male offspring and progeny”, “let not them depart” which means “do not allow or permit them, Jehovah God's wisdom and understanding, turn aside, go wrong or crooked and become perverse and devious” “from your eyes” or “separate and apart from your, the son of Solomon's, physical eyes or mental and spiritual faculties”. Solomon instructed his son not to allow Jehovah God's wisdom and understanding to become perverse and devious within his mental and spiritual faculties.
The verse goes on to say, “keep sound wisdom and discretion:” Solomon continued with the words, “keep sound wisdom” or “observe, preserve, guard and watch abiding and efficient, knowledge, working, success and enterprise” “and discretion” which means “and purpose, intent, witty invention and good sagacity”. Solomon told his son to observe and watch over efficient knowledge, success, enterprise, purpose and intent.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn how Solomon wanted his son to constantly observe wisdom and knowledge, and he was to watch efficient success, enterprise, purpose and intent within his life. God wants us to constantly observe His words of wisdom and understanding, and when we realize His commitment to us by sending His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for our sins, we should yield ourselves to Him. When we believe and trust in Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and help us to “keep” His wise words and purposeful intent.
Next time Solomon says wisdom and understanding will be, “life to your soul, and grace to your neck”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
