Apply Your Heart unto Instruction - Proverbs 23:12

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “Remove not the old landmark; and enter not into the fields of the fatherless: For their redeemer is mighty; he shall plead their cause with you”, and in chapter twenty-three and verse twelve of Proverbs Solomon said, “apply your heart unto instruction” where we read,

Apply your heart unto instruction,

and your ears to the words of knowledge.

The verse begins, “Apply your heart unto instruction, ... Solomon began with the words, “apply your heart” or “commit and dedicate your, the readers and listeners of Solomon's words', soul, mind, will, desires, living being, conscience and seat of emotions and passions” “unto instruction” which means “toward discipline, chastening and correction”. Solomoninstructed his readers and listeners to commit their souls toward discipline and correction.

The verse continues, “... and your ears to the words of knowledge.” Solomon added the words, “and your ears” or “and your, the readers and listeners of Solomon's words', physical ears for hearing, perceiving and understanding” “to the words” which means “toward the speeches, declarations and proclamations” “of knowledge” or “belonging to perception, skill, discernment, understanding and wisdom”. Solomon told his readers and listeners to commit their hearing “ears”toward the declarations belonging to perception, skill and understanding.

When we consider the words in this verse, we discover through Solomon how we are to commit ourselves to discipline and correction, and we are to use our ability to hear to perceive speeches and proclamations of discernment. God wants to have a personal relationship with us through His Son Jesus who was crucified on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we believe and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and teach us to use our listening for correction, discipline and understanding.

Next time Solomon says, “withhold not correction from the child”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
