A Sinner Doing Evil a Hundred Times - Ecclesiastes 8:12

In the book of Ecclesiastes, Solomon said, “I saw the wicked buried, who had come and gone from the place of the holy, and they were forgotten in the city where they had so done: this is also vanity. Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil”, and in chapter eight and verse twelve of his book Solomon shared what happens, “though a sinner do evil an hundred times” where we read,

Though a sinner do evil an hundred times, and his days be prolonged,

yet surely I know that it shall be well with them that fear God, which fear before him:

The verse reads, “Though a sinner do evil an hundred times, and his days be prolonged, …” Solomon began with the words, “though a sinner do evil” or “even if and in case a person who goes wrong, incurs guilt and misses the mark produces and performs bad, malignant, displeasing and wicked acts and deeds” “an hundred times” which means “upon one hundred occasions”, “and his days” or “and his, the sinner’s, sunrises to sunsets” “be prolonged” which means “exist as lengthened, continued and drawn out”. Solomon referred to a person who misses the mark and commits his sinful acts one hundred times but continues to live for a long time.

The verse goes on to say, “… yet surely I know that it shall be well with them that fear God, which fear before him:” Solomon continued with the words, “yet surely I know” or “still, indeed and surely I, Solomon, perceive, discern, distinguish and recognize” “that it shall be well with them” which means “that which will happen, fall out, take place and come about will exist as good, pleasant and agreeable for the people”“that fear God” or “who have awe and respect for the Supreme Deity Jehovah God”. Solomon said he perceive that the future would be much more agreeable for people who have respect and awe of the Supreme Deity Jehovah God.

When we think through the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how there is a difference between the future for “sinners” and those who have awe and respect toward Jehovah God. God wants to be in a personal relationship with us through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind and was raised from the dead after three days. When we yield to Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and teach us the value of revering Him through His Holy Spirit who will guide us into all truth and empower us to live according to that truth before His eyes.

Next time Solomon says, “it shall not be well with the wicked”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
