Cast Your Bread Upon the Water - Ecclesiastes 11:1

In the book of Ecclesiastes, Solomon said, “Curse not the king, no not in your thought; and curse not the rich in your bedchamber: for a bird of the air shall carry the voice, and that which has wings shall tell the matter”, and in chapter eleven and verse one of his book Solomon said, “cast your bread upon the water” where we read,

Cast your bread upon the waters: for you shall find it after many days.

The verse reads, “Cast your bread upon the waters:” Solomon began with the words, “cast your bread” or “send, stretch out, let go and extend your, Solomon’s readers’, grain or food” “upon the waters” which means “on the water courses or springs”. Solomon instructed his readers to extend and let go of their grain on the watercourses.

The verse goes on to say, “for you shall find it after many days.” Solomon continued with the words, “for your shall find it” or “because, since and on account that you, Solomon’s readers, will discover, attain, secure and acquire it, the grain” “after many days” which means “following an abundant and numerous amount of sunrises to sunsets”. Solomon said his readers would discover and acquire the grain they distributed following an abundant amount of sunrises to sunsets.

When we meditate upon Solomon’s words in this verse, we learn how he wanted his readers to stretch out and distribute their grain upon the watercourses, and the result would be after some passing of time, they would reap them again. God wants us to have faith and venture, and when we let go of our “seed”, we shall reap in due season. (See 2 Corinthians 9:6; Galatians 6:9) God loves us, and He wants to bless us especially when we receive His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind and was raised from the dead after three days. As we yield to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us His Holy Spirit who will guide us into all truth and inspire us to take a venture of faith and reap of the bountiful harvest which He will provide.

Next time Solomon says, “give a portion to seven, and also to eight”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
