I Saw the Wicked Buried - Ecclesiastes 8:10

In the book of Ecclesiastes, Solomon said, “All this have I seen, and applied my heart unto every work that is done under the sun: there is a time wherein one man rules over another to his own hurt”, and in chapter eight and verse ten of his book Solomon said, “I saw the wicked buried” where we read,

And so I saw the wicked buried, who had come and gone from the place of the holy,

and they were forgotten in the city where they had so done: this is also vanity.

The verse reads, “And so I saw the wicked buried, who had come and gone from the place of the holy, …” Solomon began with the words, “and so I saw the wicked buried” or “and therefore, wherefore, then and on this account I, Solomon, beheld, perceived, noticed, discerned and observed the people who are criminal, ungodly, bad, morally wrong and hostile to God entombed”, “who had come and gone” which means “who came in, entered, left and departed” “from the place” or “separate and apart from the location” “of the holy” which means “belonging to the morally and ceremonially sacred and set apart”. Solomon said he observed the entombment of people who were ungodly, morally wrong and hostile to God and who frequently entered and departed from the sacred temple.

The verse goes on to say, “… and they were forgotten in the city where they had so done: this is also vanity.” Solomon continued with the words, “and they were forgotten” or “and they, the wicked people, were oblivious, mislaid and lacking from the memory or attention” “in the city” which means “within the place of waking and guarded place” “where they had so done” or “in the location they, the wicked people, had performed and produced their wicked and evil acts”: “this is also vanity” which means “this, the forgetting of the evil people, even so and indeed exists as vapor, breath and transitory dissatisfaction”. Solomon said the people who committed their evil acts were not remembered by the inhabitants of their guarded town, and he considered that to be vapor and transitory dissatisfaction.

When we consider the words in this verse, we see how Solomon observed the honor that was given to people who were evil when they died and were entombed. These ungodly people would frequent the sacred worship place, and yet, they continued to commit their criminal acts. For some reason the people within their own town praised them when they died, and Solomon saw that as vapor. God wants us to follow and keep His ways, and because we have sin in our lives that resists obeying Him, He sent His Son Jesus to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind and raised Him from the grave after three days. When we put our faith and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and teach us through His Holy Spirit how to live according to His true ways and to never exalt those who commit ungodly and unrighteousness acts and deeds.

Next time Solomon shares about the, “sentence of an evil work”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
