In the book of Ecclesiastes, Solomon said, “truly the light is sweet, and a pleasant thing it is for the eyes to behold the sun.”, and in chapter eleven and verse eight of his book Solomon shared what to do, “if a man live many years, and rejoice in them all” where we read,
But if a man live many years, and rejoice in them all;
Yet let him remember the days of darkness; for they shall be many. All that come is vanity.
The verse reads, “But if a man live many years, and rejoice in them all;” Solomon began with the words, “but if a man” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover whether and in case a person whether male or female” “live many years” which means “remains alive and active for an abundant and numerous amount of annual sets of sunrises to sunsets”, “and rejoice” or “and be glad and exult” “in them all” which means “within each, every, the whole and everyone of the many years”. Solomon told his readers even if a person remains alive for a numerous amount of “years”, and be glad in every one of them, the following should happen.
The verse continues, “Yet let him remember the days of darkness; for they shall be many. All that come is vanity.” Solomon added the words, “yet let him remember” or “still allow and permit him, the person, to recall, call to mind and make a memorial of” “the days of darkness” which means “the sunrises to sunsets pertaining to obscurity and the secret place”; “for they shall be many” or “because, since and on account that they, those years, will exist as abundant and numerous”. “All that come” which means “each, every, the whole and everyone of the days of darkness that arise and come forth” “is vanity” or “exist as breath, vapor and transitory dissatisfaction”. Solomon said the person who rejoices in their “many years” should also recall their obscure and secret “days” which are numerous because every one of them that arise exist as vapor and transitory dissatisfaction.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon that even if a person remains alive for a great number of “years” and is glad in everyone of them, they will be reminded of their numerous obscure“days”. Solomon considered everyone of these times as emptiness and transitory dissatisfaction, but God wants us to enjoy the time we are given by Him on the earth. When we yield our lives to His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind and was resurrected from the dead after three days, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us the power of His Holy Spirit to be glad in all our days before we go to Heaven to live with Him.
Next time Solomon says, “rejoice, O young man, in your youth”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
