The Wisdom Solomon Saw - Ecclesiastes 9:13

In the book of Ecclesiastes, Solomon said, “For man also knows not his time: as the fishes that are taken in an evil net, and as the birds that are caught in the snare; so are the sons of men snared in an evil time, when it falls suddenly upon them”, and in chapter nine and verse thirteen of his book Solomon said, “this wisdom have I seen also under the sun” where we read,

This wisdom have I seen also under the sun, and it seemed great unto me:

The verse reads, “This wisdom have I seen also under the sun, …” Solomon began with the words, “this wisdom” or “the following skill, shrewdness and prudence” “have I seen” which means “have I, Solomon, noticed, discerned, perceived and observed” “also under the sun” or “even so and indeed beneath the sun in the sky”. Solomon shared how he indeed observed the following beneath the sun in the sky.

The verse continues, “… and it seemed great unto me:” Solomon added the words, “and it seemed great” or “and it, the following, appeared as intense, noble, mighty and important” “unto me” which means “to me, Solomon”. Solomon said the following appeared to be noble and important to him.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we discover through Solomon how he observed another happening beneath the sun in the sky that appeared noble and important to him. We shall learn of his observation in our next verse, but for now let us think about how Solomon took time to consider his surroundings. He was wise, thoughtful and very observant because he desired to know, and we should have the same trait when we are considering our Creator God. God loves us, and His desire is to have a personal intimate relationship with us through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind and was raised from the dead after three days. When we surrender to Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and put His Holy Spirit within us so we seek out His movement and dealings with people throughout the world.

Next time Solomon shares about, “a little city, and few men within it”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
