Does Not Wisdom Cry? - Proverbs 8:1

In the book of Proverbs Solomon speaking of the woman dressed in the attire of a harlot said, “Hearken unto me now therefore, O you children, and attend to the words of my mouth. Let not your heart decline to her ways, go not astray in her paths. For she has cast down many wounded: yes, many strong men have been slain by her. Her house is the way to hell, going down to the chambers of death”, and in chapter eight and verse one of Proverbs Solomon asked, “does not wisdom cry?” where we read,

Does not wisdom cry? and understanding put forth her voice?

The verse begins, “Does not wisdom cry?. Solomon began with the words, “Does not” or “is it not true and verifiable that” wisdom cry which means “skill, shrewdness and prudence proclaim, call out and shout aloud”? Solomon rhetorically questioned whether skill, shrewdness and prudence call out and shout aloud.

The verse goes on to say, “and understanding put forth her voice?” Solomon continued with the words, “and understanding” or “and intelligence, insight and knowledge” “put forth her voice” which means “gives, bestows, grants, permits, ascribes, devotes and consecrates her, wisdom's, sound and noise of uttered words”? Solomon asked whether knowledge and insight also shout aloud with a thunderous blasting and cry of uttered words.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how “wisdom and understanding” are “speaking aloud” to anyone who will listen to them. The idea is that God is putting forth His skill and shrewdness for living, and all are invited to partake of His words. God loves us, and He proved His love for us when He sent His Son Jesus into the world to be crucified on the cross for our sins. When we surrender our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us His “wisdom and understanding” for living by His Holy Spirit who will guide us into all truth and empower us to live according to that truth. (See John 16:13 and Acts 1:8)

Next time Solomon says, “she stands in the top of high places”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
