In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “The fear of the LORD is to hate evil: pride, and arrogance, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate. Counsel is mine, and sound wisdom: I am understanding; I have strength”, and in chapter eight and verse fifteen of Proverbs Solomon said, “by me kings reign” where we read,
By me kings reign, and princes decree justice.
The verse begins, “By me kings reign, ...” Solomon began with the words, “by me” or “through means of me, wisdom” “kings reign” which means “royal rulers give counsel, advise and ascend to the throne”. Solomon shared how royal rulers ascend to their thrones of authority to give advise and counsel by “wisdom”.
The verse continues, “... and princes decree justice.” Solomon added the words, “and princes” or “and weighty, judicious, commanding and honorable rulers or potentates” “decree justice” which means “inscribe, set, engrave, portray and govern in a just, right, victorious and prosperous way”. Solomon said judicious rulers govern in right and prosperous ways through “wisdom”.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how rulers govern over people in a judicious manner by the means of “wisdom”. God gave Solomon his “wisdom” (See 1 Kings 3:1-15), and He desires to give us His “wisdom” as well. (See James 1:5). When we receive His Son Jesus who died on the cross for our sins as our personal “Savior and Lord, not only will we obtain forgiveness of sins and everlasting life, but we shall also receive the wise ways of God to conduct our lives according to His purposes and plans.
Next time Solomon says, “by me princes rule, and nobles and all the judges”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
