Delight Unseemly for a Fool - Proverbs 19:10

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “a false witness shall not be unpunished, and he that speaks lies shall perish”, and in chapter nineteen and verse ten of Proverbs Solomon said, “delight is not seemly for a fool” where we read,

Delight is not seemly for a fool; much less for a servant to have rule over princes.

The verse begins, Delight is not seemly for a fool;” Solomon began with the words, “delight is not seemly” or “daintiness, luxury, pleasantness and comfort is in no way beautiful, comely or suitable” “for a fool” which means “for a person who is a dullard, simpleton or arrogant”. Solomon shared how pleasantness and comfort is in no way suitable for a person who is a dullard and foolish.

The verse goes on to say, “much less for a servant to have rule over princes.” Solomon continued with the words, “much less” or “yes, though and so much the more” “for a servant” which means “for a person who is a bondman, of servile condition or a slave” “to have rule over princes” or “to have governance, dominion and reign above chiefs, captains, principals or lords”. Solomon said that it is to an even greater degree“unseemly” for a bondman or slave to govern and have dominion over royal rulers and authorities.

When we think through Solomon's words in this verse, we discover that luxury and comfort are not beautiful for a person who is arrogant and a dullard, and even to a greater degree it is not fitting for a person who is a slave or bondman to reign over royal rulers or nobles. God wants us to be “wise”, and when we are, we shall enjoy pleasantness. He gave us His Son Jesus to be crucified on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we yield our lives to Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and instruct us in the way to enjoy pleasantness and to know how to “rule” over those with whom He gives us authority.

Next time Solomon says, “the discretion of a man defers his anger”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
