Entreating the Favor of the Prince - Proverbs 19:6

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “a false witness shall not be unpunished, and he that speaks lies shall not escape”, and in chapter nineteen and verse six of Proverbs Solomon said, “many will entreat the favor of the prince” where we read,

Many will entreat the favor of the prince: and every man is a friend to him that gives gifts.

The verse begins, Many will entreat the favor of the prince:” Solomon began with the words, “many will entreat the favor” or “a great, numerous and an abundant amount of people shall beseech, ask and seek the face, presence and front” “of the prince” which means “belonging to the grandee or ruling noble”. Solomon shared how a great number of people solicit the kindness and presence of the ruling nobleman.

The verse goes on to say, “and every man is a friend to him that gives gifts.” Solomon continued with the words, “and every man” or “and the whole, all and each person both male and female” “is a friend” which means “exists as an intimate companion, fellow-citizen or brother” “to him that gives gifts” or “to the person whether male or female who grants, awards and bestows offerings, presents and rewards”. Solomon said each person whether male or female exists as an intimate companion to the person who bestows offerings upon them.

When we think through the words in this verse, we discover through Solomon how people want to be “favored” by rulers and authorities, and everyone tends to be a companion to the person who bestows presents upon them. God wants us to desire a personal relationship with Him, and because He loves us, He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we believe and trust in Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and teach us by His Holy Spirit how to seek the presence of authorities and to manage “gifts” that are given to us.

Next time Solomon says, “all the brethren of the poor do hate him”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
