Brothers of the Poor Hating Him - Proverbs 19:7

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “many will entreat the favor of the prince: and every man is a friend to him that gives gifts”, and in chapter nineteen and verse seven of Proverbs Solomon said, “all the brethren of the poor do hate him” where we read,

All the brethren of the poor do hate him: how much more do his friends go far from him?

he pursues them with words, yet they are wanting to him.

The verse begins, All the brethren of the poor do hate him: how much more do his friends go far from him?” Solomon began with the words, “all the brethren” or “each, every, the whole and everyone of the relatives, kinship and tribes” “of the poor” which means “belonging to the impoverished, in want, hungry and destitute” “do hate him” or “are odious and as an enemy or foe to the person whether male or female”: “how much more” which means “to what greater and more numerous degree” “do his friends” or “the person whether male or female's intimate companions and closely joined confidants” “go far from him” which means “separate and stay apart from the person”? Solomon shared how people who are impoverished are as enemies to their kinship and relatives, and he questioned whether their intimate companions separated themselves from them to an even greater degree.

The verse continues, “he pursues them with words, yet they are wanting to him.” Solomon added the words, “he pursues them” or “he, the poor person, follows, attends and runs after their intimate companions” “with words” which means “by the use of speeches, utterances, proclamations and declarations”, “yet they are wanting to him” or “till and even still they, the intimate companions, exist as lacking, deficient and in need to the person who is poor”. Solomon said the “poor” person follows after their “friends” and “brethren” but they keep their distance from them.

When we think through Solomon's words in this verse, we see how impoverished people have difficulty with their family and friends. Even when the person in need wants to relate to them and solicits them with their words, they are often abandoned and left alone. God knows the condition of every person in the world, and because He loves us, He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we surrender our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and teach us by His Holy Spirit how to relate to others regardless of our monetary or social status in this world.

Next time Solomon says, “he that gets wisdom loves his own soul”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
