Loving Your Own Soul Through Wisdom - Proverbs 19:8

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “All the brethren of the poor do hate him: how much more do his friends go far from him? he pursues them with words, yet they are wanting to him, and in chapter nineteen and verse eight of Proverbs Solomon said, “he that gets wisdom loves his own soul” where we read,

He that gets wisdom loves his own soul: he that keeps understanding shall find good.

The verse begins, He that gets wisdom loves his own soul:” Solomon began with the words, “he that gets wisdom” or “the person whether male or female who obtains, acquires, attains and possesses skill, shrewdness and prudence” “loves his own soul” which means “has strong affection and desire for their own personal heart, mind, will, desires, living being, conscience and seat of emotions and affections”. Solomon shared how the person who acquires skill and prudence has strong affection for their own personal heart, mind and will.

The verse goes on to say, “he that keeps understanding shall find good.” Solomon continued with the words, “he that keeps understanding” or “the person whether male or female who guards, observes, watches over and protects intelligence, insight and knowledge” “shall find good” which means “will discover, secure, acquire and get that which is pleasant, agreeable, excellent and valuable”. Solomon said the person who watches over knowledge and insight will discover that which is pleasant, agreeable and valuable.

When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how a person who possesses skill and prudence is affectionate for their own heart, mind and will, and when they watch over and protect intelligence and insight, they will discover pleasantness within their lives. God wants us to be wise, and He extends His “knowledge” to every person who believes and trusts in His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind. God wants to forgive us, grant us everlasting life and extend to us His “wisdom” and “understanding” according to His Divine purpose and plan.

Next time Solomon says, “a false witness shall not be unpunished”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
