The Poor Uses Entreaties - Proverbs 18:23

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, Whoso finds a wife finds a good thing, and obtains favor of the LORD”, and in chapter eighteen and verse twenty-three of Proverbs Solomon said, “the poor uses entreaties” where we read,

The poor uses entreaties; but the rich answers roughly.

The verse begins, The poor uses entreaties;Solomon began with the words, “the poor” or “the people who are impoverished, in want, hungry, in need and lacking” “uses entreaties” which means “declares, speaks and utters supplication and prayers for favor”. Solomon shared how people who are impoverished and in want use their voices to pray for favor.

The verse continues, “but the rich answers roughly.” Solomon added the words, “but the rich” or “however, nevertheless, notwithstanding and moreover the person whether male or female who is wealthy, haughty and impious ” “answers roughly” which means “responds, speaks and utters tunefully in a strong, mighty and forceful manner”. Solomon said the person who is haughty and impious responds in a mighty and forceful way.

When we mediate upon the words in this verse, we see through Solomon the difference in the speaking and appeal of people who are impoverished and those who are wealthy. People in want plead for favor, but haughty “rich” people respond in a forceful way. God is the economy for every person, and whether they are “rich” or “poor” in this world's goods, He knows their spiritual condition. God loves us, and when we yield our lives to His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and teach us to use our speech in ways that obtain His favor and supply according to His perfect plan and will.

Next time Solomon says, “a man that has friends must show himself friendly”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
