Finding a Wife is a Good Thing - Proverbs 18:22

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof”, and in chapter eighteen and verse twenty-two of Proverbs Solomon said, “whoso finds a wife finds a good thing” where we read,

Whoso finds a wife finds a good thing, and obtains favor of the LORD.

The verse begins, Whoso finds a wife finds a good thing, ...Solomon began with the words, “whoso finds a wife” or “whatever man discovers, attains, secures and acquires a female spouse” “finds a good thing” which means “discovers, attains, secures and acquires a pleasant, excellent, rich, valuable and prosperous thing”. Solomon said the man who secures a female spouse attains a pleasant and excellent thing.

The verse goes on to say, “... and obtains favor of the LORD.” Solomon continued with the words, “and obtains” or “and brings out, elicits, gets and secures” “favor of the LORD” which means “pleasure, delight, goodwill and acceptance belonging to Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God”. Solomon said the man who attains a “wife” gets acceptance and goodwill from Jehovah God.

When we consider the words in this verse, we discover through Solomon the value a man receives by attaining a “wife”, and when they do, they receive acceptance and delight from Jehovah God. God performed the first marriage when He said, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him” (Genesis 2:18), and from that time He has been providing “good things” to people. God wants to have a personal relationship with us through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for our sins, and when we yield our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and help us to live according to the “favor” that He desires for us.

Next time Solomon says, “the poor uses entreaties”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
