The Soul Without Knowledge - Proverbs 19:2

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “Better is the poor that walks in his integrity, than he that is perverse in his lips, and is a fool”, and in chapter nineteen and verse two of Proverbs Solomon said, “the soul ... without knowledge, it is not good” where we read,

Also, that the soul be without knowledge, it is not good; and he that hastes with his feet sins.

The verse begins, Also, that the soul be without knowledge, it is not good;Solomon began with the words, “also, that the soul” or “even so and indeed, so the heart, mind, will, desires, living being, conscience and seat of emotions and affections” “be without knowledge” which means “exists not having any cunning, perception, skill, wisdom and discernment”, “it is not good” or “not having knowledge exists as not pleasant, agreeable, excellent, rich, appropriate or kind”. Solomon shared how the heart, mind and will of a person without perception and discernment is in no way pleasant or agreeable.

The verse goes on to say, “and he that hastes with his feet sins.” Solomon continued with the words, “and he that hastes with his feet” or “and the person whether male or female who hurries and acts hastily with their physical feet” “sins” which means “misses the marks, errs, goes wrong, forfeits and incurs guilt”. Solomon said the person who hurries with their feet makes mistakes.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how it is not pleasant for a person to exists without any perception or discernment, and when people hurry to make choices and decisions, they become sinful and wrong. God wants to lead us through His “knowledge” and understanding, and He desires that we learn to “wait” upon Him. He gave us His Son Jesus who died on the cross for our sins so when we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and help us by His Holy Spirit to gain “understanding” as we learn to be patient for Him to lead.

Next time Solomon says, “the foolishness of man perverts his way”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
