A Cluster of Camphire - Song of Songs 1:14

In the book of Song of Songs, Solomon said, “a bundle of myrrh is my well beloved unto me; he shall lie all night betwixt my breasts”, and in chapter one and verse fourteen of Song of Songs, Solomon shared how the bride said, “my beloved is unto me as a cluster of camphire” where we read,

My beloved is unto me as a cluster of camphire in the vineyards of Engedi.

The verse begins, “My beloved is unto me as a cluster of camphire ...” Solomon began with the words, “my beloved” or “my, the bride's, greatly loved one, the groom” “is unto me as a cluster of camphire” which means “exists to me, the bride, similar and in likeness to a clump or bunch of henna blossoms”. Solomon shared how the bride considered her greatly loved groom to be similar to a bunch of henna blossoms 

The verse continues, “... in the vineyards of Engedi.” Solomon added the words, “in the vineyards” or “within the garden of vines such as produce grapes” “of Engedi” which means “belonging to Engedi whose name means fount of the kid and was a town in the wilderness of Judah on the western shore of the Dead Sea”. Solomon also referred to the source of the “cluster of camphire” as it was located in the midst of a garden of vines within the town of “Engedi”.

When we meditate upon Solomon's words in this verse, we learn how the bride also considered her greatly loved groom to be similar to the clusters of blossoms that were in the middle of the vine gardens located in “Engedi”. In other words, he stood out in the midst of the normal view. Jehovah God Almighty is our Creator God, and He gives us life, breath and sustenance of life so we may have a personal intimate relationship with Him. He stands out above all other gods because He is the Only One who sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross to pay for the price of the sins of all mankind. When we believe and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and live within us so others see Him in us as we stand out like a “cluster of camphire” in the middle of a “vineyard”.
