In the book of Song of Songs, Solomon shared how the lover or groom said to the bride, “If you know not, O you fairest among women, go your way forth by the footsteps of the flock, and feed your kids beside the shepherds' tents”, and in chapter one and verse nine of Song of Songs Solomon shared how the groom compared the bride, “to a company of horses” where we read,
I have compared you, O my love, to a company of horses in Pharaoh's chariots.
The verse begins, “I have compared you, O my love, ...” Solomon began with the words, “I have compared you” or “I, the groom, have likened you, the bride”, “O my love” which means “O my, the groom's, well-loved fellow associate, companion and beloved” to the following. Solomon shared how the groom likened the bride, whom he considered his well-loved fellow and beloved companion, to the following.
The verse goes on to say, “... to a company of horses in Pharaoh's chariots.” Solomon continued with the words, “to a company of horses” or “to a troop, assemblage and group of mares or stallions” “in Pharaoh's chariots” which means “within the carriages for transportation belonging to Pharaoh whose name means great house and was the common title of the king of Egypt”. Solomon shared how the groom compared the bride to the group of mares or stallions which provided transport for “Pharaoh's” carriage.
When we think through Solomon's words in this verse, we learn how the groom likened the bride, whom he loved dearly, to the group of stallions that were attached to the carriage of Pharaoh. In other words, she was regal and worthy of honor. God looks upon us in the same valuable manner, and His desire is to have a personal relationship with all of us. He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we surrender our lives to Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and show us the beauty and value we have within His eyes.
Next time Solomon shares how the lover or groom says, “your cheeks are comely with rows of jewels”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
