In the book of Song of Songs, Solomon shared how the lover or groom said, “I have compared you, O my love, to a company of horses in Pharaoh's chariots”, and in chapter one and verse ten of Song of Songs, Solomon shared how the lover or groom said, “your cheeks are comely with rows of jewels” where we read,
Your cheeks are comely with rows of jewels, your neck with chains of gold.
The verse begins, “Your cheeks are comely with rows of jewels, ...” Solomon began with the words, “your cheeks are comely” or “your, the bride's, soft flesh covering the jaw-bone exists as beautiful, befitting or handsome” “with rows of jewels” which means “in the company of circlets, plaits, turns and orders or earrings”. Solomon shared how the flesh covered jaw-bones of the bride were beautiful with earrings that made them lovely.
The verse continues, “... your neck with chains of gold.” Solomon added the words, “your neck” or “your, the bride's, back of the physical neck” “with chains of gold” which means “adorned by the use of a gold metal beaded necklace or string of beads”. Solomon shared how the groom acknowledged the golden beaded necklace that surrounded the physical neck of the bride.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how the groom began to identify the beautiful features of the bride as he acknowledged her “cheeks” with golden earrings and the necklace she adorned. Although this bride was rejected by others, the groom recognized how lovely she was to him. God sees us as beautiful and worth saving because He loves us. He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind to prove His love, and when we yield our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and adorn us in this life and the next with His valuable jewels.
Next time Solomon shares how the daughters of Jerusalem say, “we will make you borders of gold”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
