In the book of Song of Songs, Solomon shared how the lover or groom said to the bride, “your cheeks are comely with rows of jewels, your neck with chains of gold. We will make you borders of gold with studs of silver”, and in chapter one and verse twelve of Song of Songs, Solomon shared how the bride shared what happened, “while the king sits at his table” where we read,
While the king sits at his table, my spikenard sends forth the smell thereof.
The verse begins, “While the king sits at his table, ...” Solomon began with the words, “while the king” or “during the time the royal ruler, authority and leader” “sits at his table” which means “is seated at his, the groom's, environ, round table, couch or that which compasses”. Solomon shared how the bride begins to note during the time the royal leader is seated upon his round table or couch the following occurs.
The verse continues, “... my spikenard sends forth the smell thereof.” Solomon added the words, “my spikenard” or “my, the bride's, odoriferous aromatic plant from India” “sends forth the smell thereof” which means “gives, bestows, produces, stretches out and extends the scent, fragrance, aroma and odor of the bride's odoriferous plant”. Solomon shared how the “bride's” scent of the aromatic plant from India released it's fragrance.
When we think through the words in this verse, we learn how Solomon shared how the scent of the bride's perfume spread toward the groom as he sat or lay upon his couch. We can imagine how attractive this was to the groom, and in the same manner, God knows our fragrance and wants to be with us. He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we put our faith and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and put within us a scent that is as attractive to Him as He is to us.
Next time Solomon says, “a bundle of myrrh is my well-beloved unto me”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
