In the book of Hosea, Hosea said, “Ephraim shall say, What have I to do any more with idols? I have heard him, and observed him: I am like a green fir tree. From me is your fruit found”, and in chapter fourteen and verse nine of Hosea, Hosea asked, “who is wise, and he shall understand these things?” where we read,
Who is wise, and he shall understand these things? Prudent, and he shall know them?
For the ways of the LORD are right, and the just shall walk in them: but the transgressors shall fall therein.
The verse begins, “Who is wise, and he shall understand these things? Prudent, and he shall know them?” Hosea began with the words, “who is wise” or “what person whether male or female is skilled, shrewd and prudent”, “and he shall understand” which means “and he, the person who is wise will perceive, discern and have insight into” “these things” or “the words and ways of Jehovah God”? Hosea question what person exists as shrewd and prudent and will perceive and discern the words and ways of Jehovah God.
The verse continues, “For the ways of the LORD are right, and the just shall walk in them: but the transgressors shall fall therein.” Hosea added the words, “for the ways” or “because, since and on account that the journeys, paths, manners and habits” “of the LORD” which means “belonging to Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God” “are right” or “exist as straight, upright, pleasing, correct, fitting and proper”, “and the just” which means “and the lawful correct and righteous” “shall walk in them” or “will proceed, move and make their course of life within them, the ways of the LORD”: “but the transgressors” which means “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover the rebels, revolters and covenant breakers” “shall fall therein” or “will stumble, stagger and totter within Jehovah God's ways”. Hosea declared Jehovah God's manners and habits to be lawful and correct, and people who are righteous and pleasing to God will proceed within them. However, people who are rebels and covenant breakers will stumble and stagger within them.
When we think through the words in this verse, we learn through Hosea how people who are shrewd and prudent make their course of life in keeping with Jehovah God's “ways” because they are the correct and lawful ones to follow. God knows what is best for us, and He provides His ways for us to follow and observe. We are blessed because of God's provision and protection, and because God wants to have a personal relationship with us, He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we believe and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, we will be forgiven of our sins, granted everlasting life and given God's Holy Spirit to guide us into all truth and to empower us to live according to His ways so we will be blessed on earth and in Heaven with Him.
Next time we begin a new book, the “Song of Songs”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
